Apparel sold in the United States must carry a permanent care label that gives a regular-care method. The Federal Trade Commission writes that rule for wearing apparel. Fiber names on the same garment belong to the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act. Read both. Do not wash from a blog diagram that disagrees with the label in the seam.
What the label is allowed to say
The Care Labeling Rule business guidance tells manufacturers to give a care method that will not harm the garment: wash or dry-clean, temperature band when it matters, and warnings when a usual method would damage the cloth. Symbols may appear with the words. If the words and the symbols disagree, follow the words on that label.
